What did I buy....
Here's a few pictures showing the loco as I bought it.
I mocked up the boiler and plate work to get a feel for what it looks like. I hadn't appreciated how high the cab sits.
Tender is less complete than the loco wheel castings are un-machined, its genearlly a good idea to let iron castings rest for a while I think 50 years should do it!
The grate and ash pan assembly sits a bit high at the moment so the boiler barrel doesn't quite sit level.
Paint is in good condition so will just need the odd bit of touching up.
Only centre section of grate can be dropped.
Nicely detailed trailing truck. I will engrave the B.R. TIMKEN logo on the bearing caps with my pantograph engraver. I'll do this when I do the same to the Tender Axle boxes.
Boiler appears to be very well made.
Not sure which design of regulator was chosen Curly provided two different ones. May change to my preferred PTFE lined commercial valve.
I removed the blast cap to get the boiler in place.
All the plate work has been done to a very high standard with reference to the works drawings.
A basket with assorted pipework and odds and sods was also included
Tri-tone whistle is neat. Tender hand pump is binding probably dirt...
Think item in centre is the brake valve. Not sure if steps are for cab or tender.
Upper is the regulator rods, lower item is a pin spanner for the leading axle drive pins.
This is the Bowden cable which I think is for the cylinder drains. It like all the pipe work has been screwed up into a ball at some point. I've heard Cyril was a perfectionist so a bit of frustration may have crept in. LBSCs designs were not particularly detailed, his ethos was to design a free steaming loco than anyone could build.
Source material
This loco uses the original two cotter design of return crank, BR changed this over time to a four bolt LMS? design.

Nice to see a few sketches this one of the smokebox.
This for the raised cover on the top of the smokebox
Not sure about this one may be a section of the grate.
Works blueprint of Loco.
Axle boxes are part machined. Still need boring for the bearings.
Drivers eye view of cab. Loose pressure gauge was source from "Bonds"
Plenty of fittings
Drivers controls are beautifully made.
